Saaho Director Sujeeth On Facing Criticism For His Film, 'I Am Being Treated So Harshly As If I Have Committed A Crime'

Ever since the trailer of Saaho was dropped fans couldn’t contain their excitement. But as soon as the film was getting closer to its release, it started getting surrounded by controversies. First the fashion critic Diet Sabya slammed the Saaho makers for copying the poster of the film from Shilo Shiv Suleman’s artwork for their song Baby Won’t You Tell Me. Later, a French filmmaker Jerome Salle also accused the makers of Saaho of plagiarism for copying his film Largo Winch. Post the release of the film, its box-office collections started dipping and how. While the film has made the business of Rs 400 crore with Rs 100 crore coming from Hindi, the film has failed to gain critical review.

But, director Sujeeth is not able to understand why he is being targeted for the critical failure of his film, Saaho. During a recent interview, when Sujeeth  was asked about the failure of Saaho, he said he is being treated as harshly as if I have committed a crime. He told Deccan Chronicle, “I made the film that Prabhas sir, my producers, and I believed in. The audiences came in large numbers to watch it, but still, I am being treated as harshly as if I have committed a crime.”

“I don’t know why all these reports targeting me are being published. I last gave interviews one day after the release of Saaho. Even when I say ‘no comments’, it is turned into an interview. And those quotes are now being used against me,” he further added.

When the director was asked about an alleged statement where he claimed that his fans in Bihar want to erect a temple in his honour, he said, “Please show me where I’ve said this. I never said this. One guy who has nothing to do with the film made this statement on YouTube. I would never make these kinds of statements. I know how ridiculous it sounds.”

Sujeeth  further said that his mother would kill him if he becomes pompous. He also added that he can be a devotee at the temple of great actors and great cinema. He’s just staying away from the media and public appearances because of all the negativity being thrown at his movie. He also said, “Love or hate the film. But why target me?”

He lastly said, “Prabhas sir and the producers are supporting me. That’s the only good thing happening in my life right now. Seeing all the criticism, I decided to keep quiet and still, all these negative things are being said about me.”
